Rules for the 2012 Competition

1. Entries are invited from musicians studying any instrument/voice; 
2. Competitors must be under the age of 19 on 30th April 2012;
3. Past winners of the first prize are not eligible to enter the competition again;
4. The minimum requirement is Grade 6 standard (Associated Board or equivalent);
5. From those taking part in the Preliminary Rounds (and regardless of age), eight finalists are chosen.  The decision is made exclusively according to the competitors' performance and potential;    
6. A maximum of two pieces may be played in the Heats; 
7. Pieces must not exceed five minutes in total. Piece(s) played at the Final must not exceed 12 minutes in total;
8. Competitors must play different pieces in the Final from those played in the Heats.  Competitors must provide a copy of their music for the Adjudicators on each occasion;
9. Competitors may provide their own accompanist or one may be provided at the competitor’s expense.  The fee is £50 payable direct to the accompanist. A further fee will be requested should the competitor reach the final;
10. The entry fee for the 2012 Competition is £15.
