Rules for the 2012 Competition
- Entries are invited from musicians studying any instrument/voice;
- Competitors must be under the age of 19 on 30th April 2012;
- Past winners of the first prize are not eligible to enter the competition again;
- The minimum requirement is Grade 6 standard (Associated Board or equivalent);
- From those taking part in the Preliminary Rounds (and regardless of age), eight finalists are chosen. The decision is made exclusively according to the competitors' performance and potential;
- A maximum of two pieces may be played in the Heats;
- Pieces must not exceed five minutes in total. Piece(s) played at the Final must not exceed 12 minutes in total;
- Competitors must play different pieces in the Final from those played in the Heats. Competitors must provide a copy of their music for the Adjudicators on each occasion;
- Competitors may provide their own accompanist or one may be provided at the competitor’s expense. The fee is £50 payable direct to the accompanist. A further fee will be requested should the competitor reach the final;
- The entry fee for the 2012 Competition is £15.
